Samuel Eugene Knox was born December
16, 1871 in Abbeville, South Carolina, the son of David Crawford and Sallie
Elizabeth "Eliza" Walker Knox. His early childhood was spent in
South Carolina, but his
father, a blacksmith, was unable to find work in Abbeville, so the family moved to
Georgia. Samuel Eugene married Minnie Clayton Stoddard about 1901 and found work with the
US Post Office. When he retired, in 1935, the family was living in the area called
"Sandy Springs".
Samuel and Minnie had only one child,
Charles Pierce Knox, born January 10, 1902. Charles married in Atlanta on May 6, 1922 to
Miss Pauline Clarke.
